The Norwich Society of Artists was founded in by John Crome and Robert Ladbrooke as a club where artists could meet to exchange ideas. The 19th century Norwich School evolved round groups of like-minded artists from similar backgrounds who came, in some cases, from the same families. They were united also by place, living and largely working as they did in the same evocative and gently beautiful corner of England.
